MORE ABOUT WHITE ROCK
Canada – inventors of hockey, maple syrup and Celine Dion, is not often thought of by travelers as a “Riviera of the North”.

Yet, there is one city - in the country’s most-western province of British Columbia - that boasts more than more hours of sunshine every year than Vancouver or Whistler, has a jewel of shoreline that runs forever, conjuring up all the allure of the South of France.

This city is the seaside resort of White Rock, British Columbia.

Nestled on the shores of the Semiahmoo Bay and the Pacific Ocean, White Rock is no bigger a footprint than that of the luxurious Monaco, but is just as breathtaking. With picturesque vantage points and the rewards of spectacular sunrises and sunsets around every corner, this is a special place.

The city is about a 45-minute drive south from Vancouver, British Columbia, about 2 hours from Seattle, Washington but just minutes from the Douglas-Peace Arch United States border crossing. Approximately 19,000 people call White Rock home.

Life at the beach is a little more relaxed, and a whole lot more flavourful, too. The area’s premiere beachfront boasts more than fifty unique restaurants and eateries – from Zagat-rated fine dining to cafes, delis and bistros. There’s something for every taste and pocketbook here in White Rock. There’s ample shopping opportunities – Johnston Road in uptown White Rock and Marine Drive at the beach have a wonderful selection of the most unique stores and services open year round. The town is brimming with a lively arts and culture scene, and is host to festivals and activities 12 months of the year.

Local accommodation is plentiful and varied to any travel budget. From a first-class boutique hotel with romantic waterfront views to homespun bed and breakfast lodging that you’ll remember a lifetime, there’s that perfect place just like home for you to rest yourself and stay a spell while enjoying our beautiful city.

White Rock’s year-round seasonable weather offers a myriad of outdoor possibilities for the adventurer in any traveler. Play a round of golf in the morning, then go skiing in the afternoon. Make a date with a kayak and navigate the bay in search of mighty Orcas and west coast sealife, or just take a lazy stroll down our 2.2km (1.2 mile) long waterfront promenade and world-famous pier. Swim, hike, bike or sail – take it easy or take it all the way, White Rock is a four-season paradise for outdoor revelers.

Oh, and about our White Rock: Yes, we have one, it’s real, and really big, too. The 441-tonne (486-ton) rock that rests of the shores of our West Beach was left when glaciers receded thousands of years ago. However, native legend holds that the white rock was hurled across the Strait of Georgia by the son of a Salish sea god in love with a Cowichan maiden. He declared, “Where this rock lands, there we will make our new home and establish our new tribe.” A visit to White Rock is not complete without a photo of yourself in front of this historic tourist destination.

Take a vacation from your standard vacation and come play in Canada’s Riviera. Make a day of it, or make a night of it. Everyday, all year long – come visit White Rock, British Columbia.
